The live-action film adaptation of the Osomatsu-san / Mr. Osomatsu anime series was released in 200 theaters in Japan on March 25, and earned 310 million yen (2.51 million USD) on 221,000 admissions on its first Saturday and Sunday, making its second place debut behind SING 2, which had dominated the Japanese weekend box office for two weeks in a row.
The fim's nince main characters - the sextuplet Matsuno brothers and the three original characters created for the film: End, Close, and Period - were played by Johnny & Associates' male idol group Snow Man. They also performed the film's theme song "Brother Beat," which will be released as their sixth single on March 30.
The Tsutomu Hanabusa (Kakegurui, Tokyo Revengers live-action films)-directed film earned 643 million yen (5.2 million USD) on 459,000 admissions in its first three-day total, which was the highest first three-day gross for a Japanese live-action film of 2022. The film ranked sixth on Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.53/5.0 based on 1,011 reviews.
Doraemon: Nobita's Little Star Wars 2021, the 107-minute 41st feature film in the Doraemon anime franchise, earned 179 million yen (1.45 million USD) on 145,000 admissions, ranking third in its fourth weekend. Its cumulative box office gross has reached 1.6 billion yen (12.95 million USD).
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 ranked sixth, one position down again from the previous weekend, but had stayed in the top 10 for 14 consecutive weeks. Its total domestic gross has reached 13.16 billion yen (106.32 million USD) on 9.38 million admissions, making it the 19th top-grossing film of all-time in Japan, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody with 13.11 billion yen.
The live-action film adaptation of Kiminori Wakasugi's (Detroit Metal City) comedy manga KAPPEI ranked eighth in its second weekend, two positions down from its debut weekend, bringing its total to 130 million yen (1.04 million USD).
There was no new animated film released last weekend.
