Sami Callihan defeated Brian Cage in a steel cage match this Friday night to become the new Impact World Champion. The bout went down at the first night of television tapings in Windsor, Ontario and will air next Tuesday on Impact Wrestling’s premiere on the AXS network. The “Callihan Death Machine” appeared on the recent “This is Impact” special previewing the big move to AXS. During the show he confronted Cage and demanded a rematch, threatening to allow the members of his oVe faction to attack his family if he wasn’t granted the opportunity. Cage and Callihan first fought in a No Disqualification match last Sunday night in Chicago at the promotion’s annual Bound for Glory pay-per-view. The self-proclaimed “Swolverine” was able to walk away victorious on that night, successfully defending his title, but apparently came up empty in their steel cage rematch. As for Callihan, this is his first reign as Impact World Champion, and his first title of any kind with the promotion. While he has won numerous titles for independent companies over his 13-year career, this is actually his very first world title for a major, worldwide televised wrestling promotion.
