Ryo Saeba Original VA Akira Kamira Expresses His Wish for City Hunter Anime Film Sequel

73-year-old voice actor Akira Kamiya, who has been voicing the protagonist Ryo Saeba in the City Hunter anime franchise since 1987, joined the video master screening event for City Hunter The Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes held at the Toho Cinemas Shinjuku theater in Tokyo on October 29 and expressed his wish for a sequel.

Twenty years after the last TV special Death of the Vicious Criminal Ryo Saeba in April 1999, the all-new anime film based on Tsukasa Hojo's City Hunter action comedy manga series in 1985-1991 was released in 251 theaters across Japan on February 8, 2019. All of the main voice cast of the past anime series including Kamiya and 60-year-old Kazue Ikura as the main heroine Kaori Makimura reprised their roles. The 95-minute-film earned an impressive 1,502,665,440 yen on 1,058,102 admissions from its domestic run, becoming the ninth top-grossing Japanese anime film of this year.

Last night's screening event was held to promote the release of the film's DVD/Blu-ray in Japan on October 30. According to Oricon News, Kamiya said on the stage, "I have been working in this business for fifty years, but this is the first time that I have been involved with one particular series for so long. I feel happy to meet such work." He also thanked the fans' support, "My life was filled with City Hunter over the past year. I was supported by everyone." Then he expressed his wish, "I've raised the hurdle, but I wish they would make the part two if it's possible. This is my big delusion."
