U.S. Rep. Dutch Ruppersburger is speaking out after President Donald Trump announced the death of ISIS founder and leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria over the weekend. In a statement released by Ruppersberger's office, the Maryland congressman described the violent leader and the results of his actions. "The death of ISIS founder al-Baghdadi is long-awaited and welcome news that makes us all safer. Baghdadi was a ruthless monster who was responsible for the deaths of many innocent civilians, the displacement of millions, and the formation of a barbaric, twisted ideology that threatens free societies across the globe. I commend the dedicated United States joint special operations personnel who are nothing short of awe-inspiring in their craft. Intelligence is the best defense against terrorism. Our intelligence agencies deserve credit for the critical role they played in this dangerous mission, with help from our allies in the region, including the Kurds."
