If you've been consistently trying to get your hands on a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S since launch, or even before, hang in there. It's been a bumpy ride to say the least, and it looks like supply shortages might not clear up until the second half of 2021, according to AMD CEO Lisa Su.
This is thanks to the fact that PS5 and Xbox Series X rely on AMD's own custom chips, with both consoles sporting Zen 2 CPUs and RDNA 2 GPUs. In AMD's financial earnings for the year, the company posted a strong Q4 thanks to products like the latest consoles, as well as the RX 6000 graphics cards and Zen 3 Ryzen CPUs. All in all, AMD's Q4 2020 Enterprise, Embedded, and Semi-Custom Segment earnings added up to $1.38 billon.
That's great news for AMD, but unfortunately production still has a ways to go before it can catch up to demand. Su expects this issue to continue until new production capacity is online, so we'll have to see if it's any easier to get one of these highly-coveted consoles in the latter half of the year.
