Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports A pair of homers from Victor Caratini lead the Cubs to a sweep in Flushing. Coming into a series where they needed to take at least two games from the Cubs , the Mets were swept at home as Chicago secured a 4-1 victory in the series finale. After nearly six innings of being locked in a 1-1 tie, the Cubs finally broke through against Jacob deGrom in the seventh inning as Victor Caratini ’s three-run homer was the final nail in the Mets’ coffin. Despite cruising and never pitching out of the stretch until that seventh inning, deGrom allowed more than three earned runs for the first time since his dreadful start against Miami on May 17th as Caratini drove in all four runs against him. While Seth Lugo and Jeurys Familia pitched a pair of shutout innings, the damage was already done. For the Mets, their only run came on their third batter of the night as J.D. Davis parked a ball over the apple for his third consecutive game with a home run. That lead wouldn’t last long as Victor Caratini ’s first home run of the night was hit almost immediately after that and the Mets didn’t spend a minute of the night in the lead from that point on.
