Shin Kamen Rider Film Rated "PG12" in Japan due to The Depiction of Killing and Bloodshed

Japan's Film Classification and Rating Organization (Eirin) has announced that the forthcoming tokusatsu action film Shin Kamen Rider is rated "PG12," which recommends parental advice and guidance for children under 12 years old, due to the depiction of killing and bloodshed. The reason was announced on the organization's official Twitter.

According to Eirin, "PG12" means "can be viewed by children under the age of 12 with the advice and guidance of a parent or guardian. This does not mean that young kids who are fans of the Kamen Rider series are not allowed to see the film, but it does mean that parents or guardians must check the film in consideration of the impact it may have on them.

Kamen Rider THE NEXT in 2007, was the Kamen Rider franchise's first theatrical film that was rated "PG12." And Kamen Rider BLACK SUN, the recent reboot series based on the Kamen Rider Black TV series in the late 1980s, was streamed on Amazon Prime Video in 2022 with the rating of "R18+," meaning that viewers 18 years old and older are allowed to watch it.

Shin Kamen Rider, the latest reboot film project helmed by Hideaki Anno following Shin Godzilla (2016) and Shin Ultraman (2022), is set to be released in Japan on March 18, 2023.
