Crunchyroll Remembers Their Favorite Lupin the 3rd Stories

On April 11, Kazuhiko Kato—better known to his fans by the name Monkey Punch—passed away. Kato created many amazing works in his time, but the best known and most beloved of all was easily Lupin the 3rd.  For many of us here at Crunchyroll, it was one of our earliest anime, if not an actual gateway series.   Today, we here at Crunchyroll News and Features are taking a look back at our favorite films and episodes, as well as what made us love this crazy series. We'd love to hear from the rest of you, too: tell us in the comments what makes you love the Lupin Gang and what story you loved most. If you're new to the series, we hope this encourages you to check out one of the standards of anime.   Thanks to everyone on the team who took part and shared their memories!     Paul:  The true genius of Lupin III is that the characters are archetypal, and so they can map onto whatever story the writers and directors want to tell, from slapstick nonsense to ...

Maisie Williams Was Convinced Everyone Was Going To Hate THAT Scene From The Battle Of Winterfell

Source: brobible.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 HBO WARNING: This post contains spoilers concerning the Battle of Winterfell from the latest episode of “Game of Thrones.” If you somehow haven’t seen the episode yet AND somehow haven’t had it spoiled then consider me impressed. If you want to keep it that way, I suggest you stop reading and watch it ASAP. After a very nice 69 episodes of buildup, Game of Thrones fans were finally treated to the showdown we’ve been eagerly awaiting for over seven seasons on Sunday night when the Battle of Winterfell finally went down. Things might have literally gotten off to a hot start when Melisandre made her grand return and lit the weapons of the Dothraki on fire but their charge was relatively short-lived and it was only a matter of time until our heroes saw themselves facing the military equivalent of a 28-3 deficit. Sorry Falcons fans. Things looked particularly dire as the Night King descended upon the Godswood, where Theon and the Iron Borne di...

The Official ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Trailer Featuring Coolio’s ‘Gansta’s Paradise’ And Jim Carrey’s Absurd Mustache Is Perfect

Source: brobible.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Via YouTube / Paramount I’m sure you’ve heard by now that the world is about to be graced with a Sonic the Hedgehog (2019) film starring Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic. Ben’s probably best known as Jean Ralphio from Parks and Rec but he’ll be an overnight worldwide star when this movie his theaters and he stars alongside Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski. The film will hit theaters on November 8, 2019, and it’s sure to make a fortune off millennials who were raised playing Sonic on Sega. The first official trailer for the film dropped this morning after an image leaked yesterday showing Jim Carrey’s bizarre Dr. Robotnik mustache and sure enough, Carrey’s got that mustache on display and it’s a mirror image of the video game. Growing up, I never played The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy . I wasn’t particularly good at Quake or Half-Life . But I could literally shut my brain down and play Sonic for hour...

Instagram account aims to educate a new generation about the Holocaust

Source: chicago.suntimes.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 For seven decades, survivor testimony has been the centerpiece of Holocaust commemoration. But with the world’s community of aging survivors rapidly shrinking and global understanding of the genocide that killed 6 million Jews declining, advocates of Holocaust remembrance are seeking new and creative ways to share witnesses’ stories with younger generations. Much as Anne Frank’s diary gripped the older generations, an Instagram account based on a true 13-year-old Jewish victim’s journal, called Eva.Stories, is generating buzz among the young. “If we want to bring the memory of the Holocaust to the young generation, we have to bring it to where they are,” said the project co-producer, Mati Kochavi, an Israeli high-tech billionaire who hails from a family of Holocaust victims, survivors and educators. “And they’re on Instagram.” Kochavi and his daughter, Maya, have created a series of 70 Instagram stories that chronicle the downward...

The U.S. Army's Delta Force: How This Secret Group of Deadly Soldiers Came to Be

Source: nationalinterest.org - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 WarIsBoring Security, The Army originally planned Delta Force as “an organization which can be deployed worldwide and has the capability to provide an appropriate response to highly sensitive situations including acts of international terrorism,” explains a 1977 analysis of the proposed unit held by the Army’s Center of Military History. Unlike Beckwith, the Army expected its commandos to spend most of their time training and working with friendly forces in foreign countries, rather than launching raids by themselves. Even now, Army special operators devote a lot of time partnering up with American allies. After more than three decades and dozens of Hollywood movies , the U.S. Army’s Delta Force—one of Washington’s premier specialized units—is still largely hidden from public view. The Pentagon offers few details about the group, its organization or even how many Delta “operators” there are in total. This article by Joseph Trevit...

Sonic the Hedgehog Gets Fast and Furious in New Live-Action Trailer

Paramount Pictures has just launched the first trailer for its upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog  adaptation, featuring our first look at the spiky star's CG version in action.   The film features Ben Schwarz (Jean-Ralphio of Parks and Rec)  as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey as his eternal foe, Dr. Robotnik. The trailer pegs the movie as a "Genesis" (we see what they did there) for the duo, with Robotnik fixated on capturing and studying Sonic. And while Carrey bears no real resemblance to his character for the majority of the trailer, a post-credits sting reveals what will likely be his late-film transformation into the recognizable foe.   Check it out:     The film has been the subject of much fan debate since Sonic's Hollywood rendering was first revealed, with former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka even weighing in on the character's new look. We'll see how it goes when Sonic the Hedgehog hits theaters this November.   Source: Paramount ...

Say Farewell to the Heisei Era with Alien Tommy Lee Jones

To Americans, Tommy Lee Jones is Agent K in Men in Black,  Two-Face in Batman Forever,  Samuel Gerard in The Fugitive,  and dozens of other memorable roles. In Japan, though, he's known as Alien Jones, the extraterrestrial face of Suntory's BOSS Coffee. And to celebrate the dawning of a new era, Suntory is collecting Alien Jones's greatest moments into a two-minute supercut.   It's not uncommon for Hollywood stars to show up in Japanese commercials (the film Lost in Translation  springboards off this very real practice), but Jones is notable for his recurring character. Since 2006, Alien Jones has appeared in BOSS Coffee's commercials, observing humanity at its best—from romantic meetings and partings to emotional karaoke nights to the satisfaction of a job well done.   The new ad, which will air only tonight, puts together some favorite moments from the ads over the years. The overarching narrative of humanity's achievements in the Heisei Era ...

Foxconn Reportedly Investing in MicroLED Display Tech for Future iPhones

Source: www.macrumors.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Foxconn is broadening investment in MicroLED display technology in a bid to win orders from Apple for future iPhones, according to a report from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (via DigiTimes ). MicroLED is widely considered to be Apple's next step after OLED, which it currently uses for the Apple Watch and iPhone XS . MicroLED displays have many of the same advantages that OLED displays have over LCDs, including improved color accuracy, improved contrast ratio, faster response times, and true blacks – given both have self-lit pixels. However MicroLED displays are thinner, brighter, and more energy efficient than OLED panels. MicroLED displays also have inorganic gallium nitride-based LEDs, which have a longer lifespan than the organic compound used in OLED displays and should make them more resistant to burn-in issues. Apple's interest in MicroLED was first reported in 2014, when it acquired MicroLED display maker ...

The panels are led by Reps. Adam Schiff, D-California, and Maxine Waters, D-California, respectively. The filing, made late Monday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, says the subpoenas were filed to “harass” the president — “to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses, and the private information of the President and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him p...

Recap: Nuggets Hold Off Blazers 121-113 In Game 1

Source: www.blazersedge.com - Monday, April 29, 2019 Denver’s distributed offense was too much for Portland’s Lillard-based version. The Portland Trail Blazers played behind throughout the second half, coming up short against the Denver Nuggets ( Box Score ). Denver takes a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven second round NBA Playoff series with Portland. Damian Lillard scored 39 points on 21 shots but it was far from enough. Here were a few essentials from a disappointing night in Denver. Defense Optional. Neither team could stop the other at the offensive end, leaving to a high-scoring contest that was lots of fun for casual viewers on national TV. But, at times, a quite frustrating game for fans of each team. The fouls weren’t the cause, but they sure didn’t help. Portland was on the wrong side of the free throw count all night, and Jokic was getting the definition of “benefit of the doubt”. But in the end, Denver outplayed Portland in Game 1, and the Blazers will need to regroup durin...

Cyber criminals are innovating faster than businesses, say 83% of respondents to Infosecurity Europe poll

Source: feeds.feedburner.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Threat intelligence will be the most crucial skill for next gen security professionals Richmond, Surrey, UK, 30 April 2019 – The majority (83%) of respondents to the latest Twitter poll from Infosecurity Europe 2019 – Europe’s number one information security event – believe that organisations are not innovating as quickly as the cyber criminals who plan to attack them. This indicates that security strategies and solutions are not being evolved fast enough to defend businesses against the ever-changing and increasingly sophisticated threats they face. An inability to innovate rapidly also points to a lack of agility and responsiveness, which will inhibit a business’s growth. Victoria Windsor, Group Content Manager at Infosecurity Group , says: “Cyber security innovation is vital if businesses are to stay one step ahead of cyber attackers, who are constantly honing their own techniques. It’s also an important driver of competitive a...

Lillard’s Heroics Aren’t Enough to Save Game 1 for Blazers

Source: www.blazersedge.com - Monday, April 29, 2019 Turnovers and spotty defense spoil great games from several Portland scorers, including Damian Lillard. The Portland Trail Blazers put up a good fight against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of their second-round NBA playoffs series. Denver’s center looked fantastic, notching 37 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Damian Lillard led all scorers with 39. Enes Kanter marched to 26 points while playing with a separated shoulder. It was everything Blazers fans could have hoped for, except the win. After all the scoring and energy expended, turnovers, defensive weakness, and muddled contributions from the supporting cast put Portland on the wrong end of a 121-113 final score. First Quarter The Nuggets telegraphed their intentions early, running Kanter through three separate screen attempts before Jokic launched a perimeter jumper over his outstretched arms, all on the first play of the game. Why are taxpayers subsidising the oil and gas companies that jeopardise our future? | Clive Lewis

Source: www.theguardian.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Instead of hoping market forces solve the climate crisis, the government needs to stop giving tax breaks to polluters Last October, the world’s most renowned climate scientists warned governments that humanity has just 12 years to prevent climate catastrophe. The UK government faces three choices to deal with carbon-heavy fossil fuels: force people to stop using them immediately; facilitate a rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy; or hope business-as-usual market forces solve our problem for us. Strip away the rhetoric, and the Tory government is still relying on the latter option. A few weeks ago, lost in the never-ending fog of Brexit, the cross-party public accounts committee released a damning report on the public cost of decommissioning oil and gas infrastructure. Their report vindicates every argument Labour has made against the government’s massive tax breaks for oil and gas companies, under its Transferable...

Snooker 19 Review

Source: www.thesixthaxis.com - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 I’ve always found snooker to be one of the sports – and it is a sport, don’t @ me – best suited to video game adaptation. The logistics of having a full size table mean that a digital version is so more convenient and the individual nature of the sport means that it transfers really well. Way back on the Amiga, Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker was my go-to for years, while the snooker add on to Hustle Kings has scratched my potting itch more recently. Having taken a break since the last version on Wii, Snooker 19 sees the return of official licensed tournaments and player likenesses, with new developers Lab42 aiming to offer a truly authentic snooker experience. Lab 42 have clearly put a great deal of passion into this project, and are to be commended for the quality of the presentation. Graphically, the snooker itself looks photo realistic; indeed, at several points, my wife thought I was simply watching TV coverage of the World ...

Campaign catchup 2019: Nationals pick bad day to throw lot in with One Nation
